Rep. Levin Votes for Powerful Legislation to Fight Youth Tobacco Epidemic
Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) today voted to pass comprehensive legislation to address the youth tobacco epidemic.
“Today, the House passed a bill that has potential to save a generation from nicotine addiction,” Rep. Andy Levin said. “H.R. 2339 takes a comprehensive approach to prevent addiction at a time when kids are using cigarettes and e-cigarettes at alarming rates. For healthier families in Macomb and Oakland Counties, this legislation is a necessary step.”
The Protecting American Lungs and Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act of 2020, or H.R. 2339, closes the tax loophole for e-cigarettes by establishing tax parity with current tobacco taxes, prohibits the sale of all flavored tobacco products, prevents companies from marketing or promoting e-cigarettes to youth under age 21 and directs the FDA to prohibit online sales of most tobacco products.
