Rep. Andy Levin Statement on Earth Day

April 22, 2020
Press Release

Congressman Andy Levin today release the following statement:

“Today, let’s celebrate 50 years of Earth Day by acknowledging that we have failed drastically in our obligation to protect, preserve and cherish the natural beauty of our world. We mark this Earth Day differently from years past—apart, and largely in our homes. Let’s use this time to reflect on the importance of the natural world in our daily lives – it is the basis and possibility of life itself!  Let’s realize that Earth Day has sometimes felt like a campaign to change our individual habits to be friendlier to the environment, when in reality only comprehensive, systemic change can save life on Earth as we know it. While we weather the current health emergency, we must remember the threat of climate change is a gathering storm of unimaginable proportions that requires an emergency response. Let’s emerge from this period with a stronger focus on transforming our politics to revolve around keeping our Earth healthy every single day.”
