Press Release

Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09) today made the following statement after news broke that Ford Motor Company would be adapting production to create ventilators in Michigan facilities, and that General Motors is producing masks in Warren, MI:

“I’m proud that UAW workers right here in Michigan will be manufacturing supplies that are essential to the COVID-19 response effort. Ford and GM have stepped up in the tradition of the Arsenal of Democracy, and I am grateful to them for that. But this is just one piece of the comprehensive, urgent response Americans—especially our health care workers—are counting on to overcome this pandemic and save the most lives. The President must use the full authorities of the Defense Production Act to procure or produce supplies and distribute them where they need to go as quickly as possible.”
